Super Mario Bros.: The Movie has been touted for some time, and even has been the subject of controversy, but the upcoming film adaptation of Nintendo’s most famous franchise is coming and fans can now set a date to get their very first look at the project. At New York Comic Con, at 4pm Eastern Time on October 6, attendees will be able to watch a teaser trailer for Super Mario Bros.

The Super Mario Bros. movie is about the eponymous plumber as he “travels through an underground labyrinth with his brother, Luigi, trying to save a captured princess,” runs the official description. Chris Pratt, somewhat controversially, is voicing Mario, while Charlie Day plays Luigi. Jack Black plays Bowser, while Anya Taylor-Joy is Princess Peach and presumably the captured princess in need of saving.

Not a huge amount is known about the upcoming movie, which is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, and even less is known about what the visuals will look like but hopefully this will be somewhat unveiled in the forthcoming teaser trailer on October 6. There has been controversy surrounding the casting of Chris Pratt, which you can catch up on in the above ‘related’ link.

Matthew Fogel is the writer of Super Mario Bros. and the screenwriter has credits for Minions: The Rise of Gru, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, and Prince Charming, among others. Seth Rogen is voicing Donkey Kong and Keegan-Michael Key voices Toad, so do expect some classic Nintendo characters in the movie.

Nintendo and Illumination will be presenting the teaser trailer premiere at New York Comic Con next month, while the full release of the Super Mario Bros. film is scheduled for April 7, 2023.
