Haven Entertainment is now part of the PlayStation Studio family. The studio headed by former Assassin’s Creed producer and Head of Stadia Games & Entertainment, Jade Raymond has just been purchased by Sony Interactive Entertainment for an undisclosed amount.
Haven started life back in March 2021 with Sony’s financial backing, as an indie studio and was working on creating a new live-service game “built upon a systemic and evolving world.” Almost a year after the studio’s founding, Sony has purchased Haven as its first Canada-based studio.
Studio head Jade Raymond and Sony already have a history together as she first started as a programmer for Sony, she then went to Ubisoft to produce the first and second Assassin’s Creed games and served as executive producer on Watch Dogs. She also worked on Star Wars: Battlefront and Squadrons with Motive Studios in 2015.
Back in 2021 with around 60 employees in Montreal, Quebec, Haven was (and still) is working on an unannounced exclusive “new IP for PlayStation” as an “independent” studio backed by Sony.
It already sounded very much like a PlayStation studio then, but now it’s official: PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst announced today that Sony has acquired Haven.
“We began working with Jade and her team in early 2021 when they were on the brink of announcing the formation of Haven Studios,” Hulst wrote. “From their first pitch, we were inspired by Haven’s vision for creating a modern multiplayer experience that brings gamers together in positive and meaningful ways. We were confident in their creative and technical expertise to deliver on such an ambitious project and were thrilled to invest in their journey developing a new, original IP for PlayStation.”
So there you have it. It is still unclear on what new IP Haven studio is working on, but with the talent behind that studio, and of course the budget, we can expect something great. Hopefully we’ll learn more about this later this year.
